Habitat for Humanity

Gem Cabinets and Cabico Boutique Edmonton lend a helping hand to Habitat for Humanity’s Carter Work Project Canada 2017

At Gem Cabinets and Cabico Boutique Edmonton, we were proud to take part in Habitat for Humanity Canada’s biggest build project ever. The 34th Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project built 150 homes across Canada to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation. The project saw affordable homes constructed in every Canadian province and territory.

At the Carter Project site in Edmonton, Gem Cabinets and Cabico Boutique Edmonton provided Habitat for Humanity with eight kitchens—a total value of over $75,000. On top of the materials, Gem Cabinets donated 200 person-hours to the project.

Habitat for Humanity Canada’s work is dear to Gem Cabinets and Cabico Boutique Edmonton. We strongly believe that all Canadians have the right to safe, affordable housing and a decent place to live.

Habitat for Humanity Canada has a long history of creating affordable housing opportunities. Habitat homeowners help build their own houses and pay affordable mortgages. Habitat’s innovative approach gives working families a hand up to better, more affordable living conditions. It pays concrete benefits in terms of improved health, stronger childhood development, and less reliance on food banks.

Since 1984, the former U.S president and first lady have traveled around the world to build and improve homes with Habitat for Humanity. Their time and effort help raise awareness of the critical need for affordable homeownership across the globe. Mr. and Mrs. Carter have inspired millions over the last three decades, working alongside nearly 100,000 volunteers in 14 countries to build, renovate, and repair more than 4,000 homes.

About Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit organization working in nearly 1,400 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit
